I’m desperate, said Susan as she hopped from the nightclub sofa stepping across a smooching couple and narrowly avoiding a lifetime of blindness for the lifeless sleeper whose eye Susan’s stiletto heel missed by a jot. 

“When a girl has to go a girl has to go", she thought. Desperate to get away from the diatribe that she’d been trapped in for the last twenty minutes and desperate to visit the loos that she’d heard whisper of all night long. Whispers from blondes and brunettes, talls and  shorts, fats and Fins, Swedes and all sorts, but all female.

The toilet, lavatory, ladies room, bog, powder room. That room that every restaurateur, bar and club owner who ever lived wanted to be famous for was where Susan was heading. It wasn’t a weak bladder it was just what was all the fuss about and why so secretive. And this is the scene that confronted her on entering that room that men never enter:

A mirror, perhaps ten meters long and in front of it 30 women. Cackling, laughing, hysterical and just plainly engaged, because in the mirror there was no reflection just a clear view of perhaps twenty men combing and preening, touching and titillating, posturing and posing with clearly no idea that they were being watched through a two-way mirror and above in pink neon the words “Don’t tell them!”

It wasn’t just the last laugh, revenge on men for decades of abject use of the word “fucked”. It wasn’t just the realisation of what men did when you weren’t with them and they were in front of the mirror. It was that you could just stare and watch and examine with complete impunity because they didn’t know they were being watched.

So serious, tickling that last iota from the gelled coiffure, rubbing the shaving cut with a wetted finger, the straightened tie, the lowering of the hip hugging trousers, the sideways examination, and what’s that……as he adjusted his penis inside his trousers catching every girls attention and giggles from the safe side. 

Susan was intelligent, she understood how she stood with men, and God there had been enough of them she thought, God if they all knew. But now this, she smiled demurely to herself as she adjusted her dress. Paid to do what she had always done so well, being fallen in love with.  For corporate gain. She’d heard about this stuff in spy stories, and she was sure it must go on in the African states, but here in Europe among names that she knew from the High Street and the business pages of national newspapers. 

She smiled…….and then he walked in – across the other side of the mirror there he was, just two metres as the crow flies but it could have been a million miles for all he knew. She knew what she had to do next and turning she pushed open the door into the club and strode to the table she had chosen so strategically adjoining the dance floor and with a clear pathway coming from the men’s room.

She waited…

On the surface she is a suit, a corporate businesswomen who has decided to take a well-earned career break after having a fling with a junior colleague. But behind the scenes she leads another life, solving her clients problems whatever they may be using her particular skills. She is on a mission to seek revenge for her latest client, someone who will pay almost any price to bring pain and misery to a man Susan knows very little about.
